REMOVAL OF TAR EPOXY FROM STEEL ECK TACITUS BRIDGE RIJKSWEG A50 EWIJK
Duration
Three months
Segment
International contractors, Civil engineering
Solution
Cleaning or pre-treating concrete
The Waal Bridge at Ewijk consists of a concrete cable-stayed bridge with four I-shaped pylons and a steel cable-stayed bridge with two I-shaped pylons between the two lanes. The bridge is a kilometre long and 40 metres wide. The bridge deck of the oldest bridge was worn. The structure was restored and brought to the same height as the road surface of the new bridge. For this renovation, the tar epoxy needed to be removed from the steel bridge deck.
THE SOLUTION
Commissioned by CVB, ADS, with the help of two hydrodemolition robots equipped with a rotor lance, removed a whopping 16,500 m² of tar epoxy in just three months. Our contribution was a modest part of a large road construction project, but was still a complex and challenging job for us.
